Just a quick collection of things to know :
- Install on DEVICE only.
- Use the Keypad buttons to scroll for correct COMPORT
- don't set the LOG path in your Windows Mobile client to something on your \Storage Card, rather use \Device
- when uploading pictures, use 1024x768, unless you have HSDPA, then the sky is your limit
- when uploading audio, use the GSM 6.10 codec, go to settings, input, third tab, select audio codec.
- when uploading a video, use MP4 or MPG/MPEG
- try all the links from the frontpage. Really :)
- Even if you have just the smallest question/feature request, ask for it at the forum, we value your input !
READ THIS MANUAL - DOWNLOAD THIS MANUAL HERE if it still won't work for you, try the forum for help.
Here are the instructions to set up your device. Depending on the version you are using, some items
may be slightly different, but the general idea should be clear.
You must first join this community, your PDA tracking account will be created
from the username and password you use to register at http://live.reperion.com/user/createuser.aspx
Turn on your device, start your (mobile) web browser download the software.
and surf to http://www.reperion.com/newclient or click MEDIA in the top bar \
- Download PocketReperion for your device ( WM2003 / WM2005 / HW65xx , HW69xx , Smartphone SPV, Symbian, Linux, Android, Nokia)
- Keep the “open this file after download” checked
- After downloading, the client will install and ask for an installation location. Use “Device”
- After installation, close any dialogs
- Turn off any other Navigation Software, or, perform a soft-reset.
- Open Programs and select the “globe” icon “Reperion”
- After Reperion starts, select “CONFIG”
- Select ComPort, set it to your correct COMport for your GPS device (many people use BT GPS com 7)
- When using the GID Intermediate GPS driver, point it to your software port.
- Select BaudRate, set it to 9600 or 57600 (or anything else that works :)
- Remove the servername jprestonsys.mydns and replace with “ tracker1.reperion.com “ ( do not use http://)
- Enter your username in “call”
- Enter your password
- Press OK and select menu “Save” to save your settings !!
- Press and hold the MAP and select “Maps OFF” to speed up connections and save data. Unless…you really need them of course.
- press and hold MPH and FEET to change to metric.
- the SMS number can be left empty, unless you want to send your updates via SMS (costly!!)
That was the most important part of the configuration.
You could now press the green arrow on the client and move outside
to get a GPS fix and move around. However, it would be advisable to do some more configuration and read a bit more info.
Also, these settings can optionally be scripted to automate the install completely.
Your software client will, when successfully setup and started, send a position update every 30 seconds to our server.
It will only try to do so when you have a successful GPS fix, and any sort of internet connection is present and working.
Also you need to move beyond the minimum threshold of default 10 meters (you can change this yourself)
If the connection to your internal GPS receiver is successful you will see the GPS time switch from a default setting to your actual local time.
If your GPS is internal, this might take a minute, especially when indoors. When GPS connection, or GPRS connection fails for whatever reason,
the position report is stored and send along with the next update. If still no signal, it willl be stored again etc. etc.
Now for the second part:
- press rate to change the rate at which the PocketPC will try and upload your position to our servers
- press and HOLD mph or feet to change to metric
- press setup - clear track to clear the track of today on the server. Also used to clear corrupt tracks.
- press setup - Min DX set the minimal distance that your position should have changed before an update to the server will be sent.
- press setup - log to NOT USE REALTIME reporting, but to save your tracks locally on your PocketPC,
so you can transfer them to our server when you are at home or somewhere with an internet connection. Ideal to save battery or GPRS cost.
- to START the application, press the GREEN ARROW, a STOP SIGN will appear
- to STOP the application, press the STOP SIGN, a GREEN ARROW will appear
- to AUTOSTART the application select it from the menu. If the device falls into standby it will continue when powered on again.
- to SEND A TEXT MESSAGE TO THE WEBSERVER, press the PENCIL ICON, multiple selection boxes will appear. Use the "Enter a 40 char message" box to send your text to the web interface on the next GPS position upload
- to POST AN IMAGE ON THE WEBSERVER, press the PENCIL ICON, multiple selection boxes will appear. Use the "Enter text for image... " box to enter your text that should be displayed under your upload image, on the webserver. Then click the "POST JPG" button to browse for your image on your PocketPC.
- to POST AN AUDIO MESSAGE ON THE WEBSERVER, use the PENCIL ICON, multiple selection boxes will appear. Use the "POST AUDIO MSG" box to browse for a locally stored audio file (TIP ! your PocketPC records in 128Kbit/44KHz, producing very big files... You can select to use a GSM Codec, which produces very small files that are very suitable for audio upload to our server. Go to your settings in your PocketPC system itself, select Personal settings, then "input" (the keyboard icon), then select the third tab "options". Under "voice recording format" select GSM 6.10 8,000Hz, Mono (2Kb/s). You don't have to do this, but it's advisable because it will reduce your file size by a 50 fold.
Time to start the application using the green arrow;
you can stop Reperion using the stop button which appears when started.
See how it looks when it you don’t have a fix.
Maybe set the rate to 10 seconds for easy testing.
(Don’t forget to press save when changing anything)
If you can, go outside and walk around the block,
look up now and then to avoid collisions with other (amazed) pedestrians.
If you can suddenly see your speed and course change,
you have a valid GPS fix and Reperion will try and upload it’s first position after the countdown reaches zero.
When the update is stored, you will get a message: OK position stored.
This is also the time when you will receive i-SMS if it was sent to you by someone else.
If no one sent you an i-SMS you won’t notice/need to bother.
When the position could not be stored,
you will get a specific error message like “need an account” “no connection – report stored”
When you do not move beyond the DX threshold (default is 10 meters) you will be “idling”
and only every 5 minutes a “I’m still alive” packet will be sent to the server to show
that the device is still powered on and tracking, although it’s not moving.
If you walked around the block and logged a few positions, you can now review your tracks using the following URL’s :
http://tracker1.reperion.com/VEmap.aspx?name=???? <your name> (virtual earth Map)
You can also follow your tracks LIVE in Google Earth, to do so, enter this URL in Google Earth :
http://tracker1.reperion.com/images/?????<yourname>.kml

You already surfed to our GeoCool GPS Blogging community. Please surf to the following location : http://live.reperion.com/ and login as well. Update your profile.
Finally, you can create trip/tour reports using the KML Composer
At : http://livecomposer.reperion.com and select your username from the list. Also select the right date and time, generate, and you will see all your pictures and audio you uploaded in Google Earth, on the spot you made them !
Of course, this is really the minimal introduction to the full scope of the Reperion Location Based Solution Provider Platfom.
We can send content based on profile and present location to any client, have alerts send to your office when a device is leaving or entering a specific area, cell broadcast information.
TO USE GOOGLE EARTH take the red link displayed under the picture… the link has the format : http://tracker1.reperion.com/images/yourusern@me.kml
Copy this link to your clipboard, you need to enter it in Google Earth !
Start up Google Earth and open ADD NETWORK LINK, then copy and paste your link into the link box and give it a nice name above it :
Then you need to set the Google Earth network link refresh and view parameters. The most important switches are “Fly to on Refresh” and Update Periodically. Ideally, for tracking people close up, use the Fly To On Refresh option as we have the server configured to zoom in and tilt nicely.
If you want to control the view yourself DO NOT use fly to on refresh.
The refresh parameters should be above 16 seconds, setting it lower is useless as the server seldom servers faster that once per 16 seconds.
here’s how you ideally configure for close up follow tracking without user input. The server tells Google Earth to tilt 45 degrees and zoom in to a couple of hundred meters, and autofollow the target.
If you DESELECT Fly To On Refresh, Google Earth will STILL GET THE UPDATES, but your target might drive off the map if you don’t manually follow it. Just track a live target and switch between the modes and you’ll understand what we mean.
